USS Flasher
Gato class submarine USS Flasher. Brisbane, December 1944.
Flasher is shown returning to Brisbane from her 5th war patrol during which she sunk 6 Japanese ships including two destroyers. When returning to port, victorious subs would fly flags as "kill markings" for each ship sunk on the patrol. Flasher sunk more tonnage than any other US sub during the war. The official US navy paint scheme was black with light haze grey and ocean grey. Both of the "official" grey colors had a significant bluish tinge to them, but the sub base at brisbane had only black and white paint available so the grey shades were mixed from these and thus were pure grey instead of the official Navy shades.
